Nkwanta SHS closed down after riot

The Nkwanta Senior High School (NKWANSEC) in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Volta Region has been closed down indefinitely. This follows violent protests by students over the seizure of mobile phones Monday. District Chief Executive Officer for Nkwanta South, Hon John Tason confirmed this on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday. Two teachers, according to reports, made an unannounced visit to the dormitories after preps and saw some students making phone calls and seized their phones. The students allegedly went berserk on Monday night after mobile phones seizures and resorted to the destruction of motorbikes, air conditions and shutters. They also smashed the windscreens of the Municipal Police Commander among others. Hon John Tason said students have been asked to go home and given school authorities a week to put things in order so that the school can be re-opened. One of the five victims of the helicopter crash outside the home of Leicester City Football Club was a runner-up in Thailand’s Miss Universe beauty pageant. Nursara Suknamai, 33, died alongside her boss and the club’s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha  in the incident, which also claimed the lives of colleague Kaveporn Pupare and pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Roza Lechowicz .  The former beauty queen’s social media pages are filled with photographs of her with Leicester City players including Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy. Police officer arrested over death of his lover in hotel

Inspector Friday Ogbeifun, a policeman attached to Border Patrol Unit, Ilaro, Ogun State, is currently undergoing investigation over the circumstances surrounding the death of his lover at a hotel in Igando, Lagos State. It was gathered that the inspector and his lover, identified simply as Esther, had checked in at the hotel on Dele Toye Street, Igando, on Monday around 8 pm to have fun and while they were in the facility, the woman, a mother of five, slumped and was rushed to the Igando General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. According to a report by Punching, the deceased was a widow whose husband died about two years ago and the corpse of the woman had been taken to the Mainland Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy. Her lover, Ogbeifun reported himself at the Igando Police Station from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba. South Africa removes tax on sanitary pads

South Africa's newly appointed Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has promised additional funds to ensure female students have access to sanitary pads. There have been growing calls for this amid complaints that girls - especially those in poor, rural communities - have been missing out on school because of the high cost of the pads. In some provinces they are already free for all female students. To cheers in parliament, he also announced that from next April the 15% tax on sanitary pads would be scrapped. Pantryman suspended for fondling St. Louis SHS student

A pantryman of the St. Louis Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region has been suspended for three months without pay, for fondling a student’s breast and touching her buttocks. Kwesi Boampong, who is in his 30s, admitted to committing the act to Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor but said allegations that he had sex with the girl are not true. The student in question has also been suspended from school for one month for breaking school rules and entering an area which is out of bounds to students. The school’s Board is yet to take a decision on what further action of discipline to take with the two as investigations continue. The Disciplinary Committee of the school has forwarded the matter to the regional directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) which has invited both parties. Tafo MP attack: Delta force members granted bail

A High Court in Kumasi has granted bail to three members of the Delta Force after they were arrested for invading a meeting organised by the Tafo Pankrono Member of Parliament. The vigilante group, affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed a meeting ground in October to register their displeasure with their MP, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, for what they refer to as failed promises. Wontumi threatens to stop Mahama from schools in Ashanti Region

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi is threatening to stop former President John Mahama from going to do politics in any school in the Ashanti Region. He noted that recent comments by the former president at school in Garu that he will be campaigning in schools so government should come and arrest him are unbecoming of the former president. The former president’s comment came in the light of the controversial video that went viral on social media, showing NDC stalwart David Akamba using school kids for politics on their campus. Akamba was invited by the police on the matter, and in the wake of that invitation, John Mahama said he will also go to schools and campaign so the police should come and arrest him too.
