Soldiers beat 17-year-old student, father and mother

A 17-year-old Student of Kwahu Ridge Senior High School together with his parents have been allegedly beaten by some military men at Ekye in the Afram Plains South District of Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on Friday 1st June 2018 around 4-5pm close to the River Afram.

According to the family, the military men, ten in number did not hesitate to attack the 43yr old father (who had gone to protect his son) after two military men had vigorously beaten the 17yr old Student (Emma) for wearing short uniform.

Narrating their ordeal to Agoo Fm News, Emma told Ebenezer Kojo Nyavor (K-Lover) that, two soldiers in uniform questioned him for wearing short uniform when he had gone out with the uncle to wash car.

Emma said “I told them my school father gave me the uniform since I did not have one. Although I pleaded with them to allow me to go, they went ahead to beat me up using sticks. They were two but one of them engaged in such manner”.

According to him, he has been experiencing severe pains in the ear waiting to see the doctor and is due for medical attention.

The 43yr old father known as Chairman Mannaseh who is currently receiving treatment at home from the wife said, he did not hesitate to go to the scene when news came in that his son has been attacked by military men.

Upon his arrival to find out the reason behind his son’s punishment, the military men, ten in number misunderstood him for trying to defend the young boy.

“I saw several military men but about ten started beating me up for nothing. One of them decided to hit me with the gun when my wife came in to defend but they pushed her away” he said in twi.

According to him, he was handcuffed and sent to the Ekye police station while the soldiers accused him of robbery but since he is known in the area as a driver, he was set free without being detained.

He revealed that the said soldiers are in charge of the ongoing fodder banks operation in the area.

Fulani menace in Kwahu is one of the major security threats in the country making it possible for Chiefs and government to acquire fodder banks in Afram Plains South where cattle rearing will take place.

Chairman Mannaseh accused the military men of using such opportunity to cause harm in the area, an attitudes he said has become known to everyone.

He therefore appealed to the appropriate authorities to ensure that justice prevails.

“The leader who is well known was boasting that he is a military man and for that matter no one can ever touch him so I want justice”. He stressed

The family is set to visit the nearby Ekye Presby Clinic for treatment.

The matter is being investigated by the Easter Regional Police Command.

Easter celebrations: 3 drown at Tawala beach on Good Friday

Three persons are reported dead after they drowned at the Tawala Beach at La in Accra. The deceased were part of a youth fellowship team of fifteen people who went to the beach to pray on Good Friday. The incident occurred after some of the team members decided to swim after their prayer session. In an attempt to save their drowning friend, the two others also drowned. Speaking to Citi News, a brother of one of the deceased, Kwame Mac-Joseph, said the absence of lifeguards at the Tawala beach is to blame for the deaths. “In the course of the swimming, one person was drowning and the next person wanted to help and he got drowned. The third person who also wanted to help also got drowned.” He said some of the onlookers were unwilling to help because they were not experienced enough in swimming, and were also terrified. “There was no rescue team or indigenous people readily available to help. The onlookers were looking at this three gentlemen drowning.” “We just received a call ...
