I Am Distressed By NPP, NDC Acrimony - Palmer-Buckle

Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, the Accra Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Church has bemoaned the glaring animosity between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Reverend Palmer-Buckle expressed worry at the current state of our political space and how the actions of some key players have contributed to the unsatisfactory position of the country 61 years after independence. “I am distressed by this acrimonious relationship between the NPP and the NDC. Those who are supposed to be in the leadership of our country, fortunately, or unfortunately they only are minority because if you put the two political parties together, those who do not belong to any political party or do not belong to any of these political groups, we are in the majority, and yet we allow the acrimonious relationship between the two political parties to dictate our sense of humility, service, selfless service, sacrificing love and service. Mauritania court gives toughest sentence for slave owners

Two slave owners in Mauritania have been jailed in a country where slavery remains widespread but convictions rare, activists say. The sentences of 10 and 20 years are said to be the toughest-ever for the crime in the West African country. Slavery was outlawed in 1981 but 1% of the population are still living in bondage, human rights groups say. Black people of certain ethnic groups are often enslaved as domestic workers by lighter-skinned Mauritanians. The country has jailed more anti-slavery activists than slave owners, rights groups say. The court in the north-western town of Nouadhibou gave a 20-year prison sentence to Hamoudi Ould Saleck. His father – who died before the trial ended – received the same sentence posthumously. Both were accused of “reducing to slavery” a family, two of whom were children. A woman, Revea Mint Mohamed, was jailed for 10 years for keeping three slaves – one of whom was a 29-year-old who had been kept since she was a small girl. Both cases had

US may tie social media to visa applications

The Trump administration has said it wants to start collecting the social media history of nearly everyone seeking a visa to enter the US. The proposal, which comes from the state department, would require most visa applicants to give details of their Facebook and Twitter accounts. They would have to disclose all social media identities used in the past five years. About 14.7 million people a year would be affected by the proposals. The information would be used to identify and vet those seeking both immigrant and non-immigrant visas. Applicants would also be asked for five years of their telephone numbers, email addresses and travel history. They would be required to say if they had ever been deported from a country, or if any relatives had been involved in terrorist activity. The proposal would not affect citizens from countries to which the US grants visa-free travel status – among them the UK, Canada, France and Germany. Vatican Denies Pope Francis Said 'There Is No Hell'

The Pope has been sensationally quoted as saying hell does not exist and souls not worthy of heaven merely disappear instead of being tormented. But the Vatican quickly denied the apparent dramatic theological shift, accusing atheist reporter Eugenio Scalfari of 'reconstructing' his words. Catholic teaching dictates that 'immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell'. The Mysteries Of Waist Beads

For many African women, wearing beads is a way of life and a culture passed on to them from their mothers. They grow up to find them on their waist even before they begin to question its significance. The waist bead is like a band worn around the belly. In most cultures, they are a symbol of a womans confidence in her body and sexuality. For me, they are precious African Jewels. In West Africa, waist beads have several names; Jel-Jelli, Jigeda, Giri-Giri, Djalay Djalay, Toma or Yomba and they are always worn under clothing. Beads found in Ghana include glass beads, stone beads, crystal beads, ceramic beads, Adinkra beads, and the Ahoofe (beauty) beads. The tradition of wearing of beads on the waist in West Africa was made popular by the Yorubas in Nigeria. Women are the main users of these beads. I Know Nothing About Ebony's ‘Black Coffin’ - Dr. Lawrence Tetteh

Reverend Dr. Lawrence Tetteh has been in the news lately for comments he passed during his sermon at Ebony’s funeral service last Saturday. The renowned preacher has said he paid for the casket of the late musician, paid for the hearse and took care of mortuary bills. However, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh has been criticised for making his act of generosity public and the black colour of the coffin with symbols depicting the signs of ‘illuminati’ embossed on it, has also been questioned. But reacting to the criticisms in a conversation with Maame Yeboah Asiedu on Adom TV’s Gangaa Chat Room, the founder and leader of UK-based Worldwide Miracle Outreach said the black coffin was the choice of the late singer’s father. It is not the way we want to go, because clearly when we create good economy and good environment, we want the ordinary Ghanaian to benefit, so what’s the point if we create a sound financial sector and ordinary Ghanaian business man is not benefiting , so there may be issues,” he said. Gov’t ‘Bans’ Importation Of Frozen Chicken

As a policy direction to help revamp the local poultry industry, government has restricted the importation of frozen chicken drastically, Dr. Gyiele Nurah – Minister of State at the Presidency in charge of Food and Agriculture – has announced. The ‘ban’ on imported frozen chicken, he indicated, is in response to the cry of domestic poultry actors that the trade practice is one of the major challenges ‘collapsing’ the local poultry industry. Excessive importation of frozen chicken as well as high costs of production have been the bane of local poultry production.  According to the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF), over 135,000 metric tonnes of frozen chicken was imported from the European Zone to Ghana in 2017 – representing a 76% increase over 2016 imports; the 2017 frozen chicken imports constituted about 112 million birds. The minister however hinted that government will not hesitate to reverse the import restriction on frozen chicken if local producers are

Economist and Evangelist, Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh has revealed that he bought the casket for the burial of late Dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns. “I have been hearing some people being acknowledged for their contributions to the funeral, but I paid for the hearse and mortuary fees…,” he said. The Man of God preaching at the funeral of late Dancehall artiste, Priscilla Kwateng known in showbiz as Ebony Reigns said he paid for all these things because he saw the funeral as a crusade to preach Christ to the unsaved. “It is not because I don’t know what to do with my money but because I see this programme as an opportunity to speak to you about the love of God…,” he said. The celebrated Man of God ceased the opportunity to call people to repentance stressing that Christ is the only one who can save them from their sins. One sentence after the other, the Man of God who claimed he led Ebony to recite the sinners’ prayer 72 hours before her death reminded the sta
