WAEC releases WASSCE 2018 results, withholds results of 26,434 candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of candidates of the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates. Meanwhile the examinations body says it is withholding the entire results of some 26,434 candidates pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of examination malpractice detected during and after the conduct of the examination. The Council in a statement signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs at the main headquaters, warned that the withheld results will be cancelled if found culpable, or released if otherwise. The embattled Headmaster of Adumanu D/A Basic School in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region, Robert Sepey has admitted being the one in the widely circulating video unleashing his unbridled libido on his former student on a kitchen stool. He is reported to have confessed to a team of investigators constituted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to look into his conduct following the leakage of the tape to determine if it is not in variance with the professional ethics of the service when he appeared before them. High Court orders WAEC to release cancelled results of 20 BECE candidates

The West African Examination Council has been ordered by an Accra High Court to release the results of 20 candidates whose papers were cancelled after the 2017 Basic Education Certification Examinations. The candidates had their results cancelled after WAEC claimed they had colluded to cheat during the exams. But, they then dragged examination council to court accusing it of breaching their fundamental human rights. Fourteen prostitutes plead for forgiveness in court

Fourteen out of 16 prostitutes who were put before an Accra District Court for soliciting for sex have prayed the Court to forgive them because they were would henceforth refrain from such acts. The sixteen includes 10 Nigerians, five Ghanaians and a Liberian. The fourteen accused pleaded guilty to the offence. The court drew their attention to the fact the act of soliciting was an offence against the laws of the country. It convicted the accused on their own plea and imposed a fine of GH 300 cedis each on them. The accused in default would serve a three-month jail term each. Two others who denied the charged were granted bail in the sum of GH 5,000 cedis with a surety each. Prosecution narrated that on Sunday 8 July, this year; the Police at Cantonments embarked on a swoop at Danquah Circle and Togo Embassy area and arrested 16 women engaging in soliciting. Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is warning of another defeat in 2020 if they don’t elect hardworking executives who have the party at heart. Bernard Allotey Jacobs said almost all the executives who led the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in 2016 have been retained and that is a huge threat to the NDC. Defeated Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayesu Ntim says his loyalty to the party is unshaken, even though he has not been successful for the fourth time in his attempt to serve the party in the capacity as national chairman. GH¢4 slippers kills girl, 6

A Desperate attempt by a naive six-year-old girl to save her slippers worth GH¢4 from being taken away by flood has turned disastrous. The inexperienced toddler slipped and fell heavily into an open drainage system and she was quickly carried away by the raging water, resulting in her death. The unpleasant incident was said to have happened at Kwadaso in the newly created Kwadaso Municipality in the Ashanti Region on Thursday afternoon. Children having sex at 16 are law abiding – UCC Lecturer

Senior Lecturer at the Department of Population and Health of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr Kobina Esia-Donkor has called for a review of the country’s laws on the age of sexual consent in order to help address the menace of teenage pregnancies and also control the country’s growing population. According to the population expert, children who are of age 16 and having sexual affairs are law-abiding citizens since the country’s laws permit them. He explained that per the existing laws of the country, adolescents who are of age 16 can give consent to sex, adding that so far as the laws on sexual consent remained age 16, children who engage in sexual acts at such age have not violated any law. 52-year-old woman drowns at Begoro

52-year-old woman who is yet to be identified has drowned in a river at Begoro in the Eastern region. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 1, 2018. Information gathered by Starr News indicates that the deceased left home around 5:30 am to recover a debt from one of her debtors in the same vicinity but at the river bank. However, her body was found drowned in the river at about 6:30 am by a resident who went to fetch water. A joint rescue team of personnel from the Begoro Police Command and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) went to the scene to retrieve her lifeless body and has been deposited at the Begoro District Hospital. The District Director of NADMO in the Fanteakwa District, Rev.
